A Clinical Study on Patients with Acute Abdomen


Abstract
165 cases of surgical patients with acute abdomen who were admitted and operated at the department of surgery of Chungnam National University Hospital from Jan. 1972 to Dec. 1973 are analyzed chiefly on the clinical aspect. The results are summerized as follows.
1) The age group and season of the highest incidence of surgical acute abdomen are 21-30 years of age and summer.
The sex ratio is 3:2
2) They came to hospital on first to second day after attack generally and average admission days were 7-14 days.
3) The most common cause of acute abdomen is acute appendicitis (46 cases:43.9
¢¥%)and peritonitis due to petic ulcer perforation is the following(12 cases:11.4%). 4) Abdominal pain is most common complaint(47 cases: 44.7%). nausea, vomiting are following(47 cases:44.7%).
5) It was very important treatment to insert polyethylen tube into vein for infus-ion & ,C. V. P. Check nasogastric or nasoduodenal tube and urinary catheter for patient -with acute abdomen.
6) In patients with acute appendicitis, L-tube was not inserted. N. P. O. on operat-ion day, liquid diet on Ist-3rd P. O. D., soft diet on 2nd-4th P. O. D., regular dieton 3rd-6th P. O. D. in these patients.
7) L-tube was inserted in most patient with acute abdomen but acute appendicitis -and its removal was performed when peristalsis was started, gas passed through anus -or detected. Water by mouth was started on 2nd-5th P.O. D. , liquid diet on 2nd-6th, soft-diet on 3rd-7th P. O. D. , regular diet on 5th-12th P. O. D. , in these patients.
8) Urine output was increased markedly on first P.O. D. and it was decreased slowly to normal Level on 3rd-4th P.O. D.
9) Pulmonary complication could be prevented with deep breathing, coughimg and early ambulation.
10) Postoperative complication were occured in 11 cases(10.5%) 11) Mortality wac 7 F,o~! rasps)
